WyoTech Instructor at Daytona Campus Wins 2011 Dream Maker Award

What can leading by example accomplish? Plenty! Oscar Tucker, an instructor in the Motorcycle Technology program at the school’s Daytona Beach campus is a former WyoTech graduate who understands the importance of focused career training — from the bottom up.

Tucker’s teaching approach is to get his students engaged by bringing the subject matter to life through a combination of hands-on learning and stimulating classroom curriculum. His desire and dedication to help each student become a motorcycle mechanic or technician is what earned him WyoTech’s 2011 Dream Maker Award.

The Dream Maker Award is presented by WyoTech’s parent company, Corinthian Colleges, Inc., and recognizes instructors with the demonstrated ability to go above and beyond to get students involved in the classroom and encourage them to be active on campus and in the community. When students are on the right path, it’s easier for them to achieve their goals.

He was also nominated for membership in the National Technical Honor Society and recognized as the outstanding student of his graduating class. Tucker’s dedication to excellence reaches beyond the campus classroom and into the community through service efforts like assisting with homeless awareness programs.

When a vehicle accident occurs, the owner may have to pay for repairs out of pocket or their insurance company may agree to schedule repairs. If a body shop is hired to do the work, collision refinishing specialists are the ones who weld, mask, color plot and paint to restore the vehicle.

Collision refinishing involves precision work, so shop specialists need to pay attention to details. They may be required to work on suicide doors, firewalls, floorboards, transmission tunnels, or to airbrush and pinstripe. As a result, auto body shops may look for technicians with training or experience in collision refinishing when hiring.

They’re like artists, but their canvas is a car’s interior and their paintbrushes are the tools they use to get the job done.

Automotive trim and upholstery specialists:

•   Create, layout and sew designs
•   Complete estimates on vehicle interiors

In 2008, Wyoming National Guard Captain Bruce Hays purchased a ’59 Chevy Apache truck for his wife as an anniversary gift. Captain Hays was deployed to Afghanistan the same year and was killed by a roadside bomb on September 17, 2008.

What Does an Electrician Do?

Automotive service managers usually work in the fast-paced environment of a dealership managing equipment and staff. Customer satisfaction is important, and your job will be to make sure work gets done correctly and on time.

An automotive service manager has to be a good problem solver and know how to communicate with customers who can sometimes get frustrated over vehicle repairs and costs.

Customer Service

Being able to lead a team is important, and is what automotive service managers must do daily. Often, a vehicle brought in for repair will need a few different mechanics to work on it. The automotive shop manager’s job is to make sure repairs are made according to company policy guidelines.

OC Choppers Custom Motorcycle Build – Behind the Scenes

As part of the new Orange County Choppers and WyoTech partnership, OCC is building a custom motorcycle and enlisting the help of our students & grads! Here is an all-new, BEHIND THE SCENES look at the bike build.

OC Choppers employees and 4 WyoTech students & grads worked side-by-side on this custom motorcycle build at OCC’s shop in New York.

“It’s not every day that the client actually sends people in to help with the construction of the bike,” said Jason Pohl, OCC’s Senior Designer. “The guys were awesome! They picked it up right away.”

OC Choppers Founder Paul Teutul, Sr. had high praise for our Motorcycle Technology program: “One of the things that kinda surprised me was the real mechanical ability that these kids have. If you wanna get into the industry, this is the place to go.”

Charley Sikes from WyoTech-Daytona

Charley specializes in Motorcycle Technology and was selected by his instructors/campus admins to participate in this special custom motorcycle project. In this video, he talks about his excitement to meet the team at OC Choppers and what this project means to him.

“I’m super excited about meeting Christian [Welter]: he’s an alumni from WyoTech* so I’m really looking forward to seeing someone who’s been where I am who’s made it to the big leagues,” said Charley.
